West Ham are still hoping to conclude the signing of Maxi Gomez ahead of this week's transfer deadline.

The Uruguayan international will cost West Ham in the region 40million, should a deal be concluded ahead of tomorrow night's transfer deadline.

One suggestion is that West Ham could loan the 22-year-old back to his current club Celta for the rest of the season, with the Spanish side currently battling against relegation from La Liga.

However other sources suggest that the club may have to wait until the summer in order to push through a deal for the highly sought after striker, with Celta relunctant to sell their prize asset given their parlous situation.

Should the Gomez deal fail to be concluded, West Ham could move instead for Chelsea forward Olivier Giroud, who has already appeared 33 times for the west London side this season (scoring seven goals in the process).
