A representative of Reece Oxford has revealed that the central defender will see out his contract at West Ham - despite having been informed to find another club.

The 20-year-old defender, who made his first team debut at the age of just 16 against Arsenal at The Emirates is yet to feature under Manuel Pellegrini, despite the club's recent defensive crisis.

And it was revealed today that Oxford is preparing to see out the rest of his contract - which has another two-and-a-half years of a lucrative 1million-per-year contract left to run - despite having virtually no chance of featuring for West Ham again in the near future.

"He is now prepared to see out his contract until 2021 because of the politics surrounding the player and the way he has been portrayed," said a representative of the former England youth international.

West Ham are understood to have rejected an offer from Dutch side Heerenveen to take Oxford on loan for the remainder of the season - whilst offers from Nottingham Forest and Eintracht Frankfurt have been rejected by the player himself.

Oxford became West Ham's youngest ever player to feature in a competitive fixture when he was included in the team that faced Lusitanos in the Europa League qualifying rounds in the summer of 2015.

Four years on and he had made just 17 appearance for the club, most recently as a late substitute in the 1-1 draw with Crystal Palace a year ago today.
