Pellegrini expects high standards - from players and fans

Manuel Pellegrini says that he hopes the supporter caught on video abusing Liverpool striker Mo Salah is "punished" for further blackening West Ham United's name.

An unknown fan was recorded referring to the Egyptian international as "a Muslim c***" whilst Salah waited to take a corner during the match on Monday evening, which ended in a 1-1 draw.

And speaking to the media on Thursday, Pellegrini said that he hoped the individual was caught and that the club "remove them" from the stadium.

"That cannot happen in the stadium," he said. "The best way to manage those things out of the game is to remove them from the great spectacle that is the Premier League.

"We must have high standards and when this happen, you must take action. The club knows how to work and says it cannot accept these kind of things in the game.

"It was a very good game and everybody was enjoying the game, so these people must be punished as soon as we can."

Pellegrini, who is preparing his team for a short trip to south east London where Crystal Palace will provide the opposition this weekend also revealed that he was deeply disappointed not to take all three points from the clash with Liverpool.

"I was very happy with the performance but very disappointed with the result," he admitted.

"The most important thing is to see the team playing in the same way we worked the whole week. We had good recovery, good possession and tried to be a good attacking team.

"The result depends on so many different things so you can play well and lose a game. In the way we played and attacked, it's an example of what we must try to do in every game."

And Pellegrini urged his players to take that form into this weekend's derby against Roy Hodgson's side, which features former Hammers Cheikhou Kouyate and James Tomkins. "Crystal Palace has a very good squad, not just a team," he said.

"They have maybe not got the results that they wanted so far this season. We must not rely on the results of their previous home games, but we must play better than them."
