A Wolves supporter that was caught on camera throwing a pie at a West Ham fan has been banned from attending matches for three years.

44-year-old Josephine Johnson has been banned from attending all Premier League grounds until 2022 after admitting hurling a steaming hot pie at a West Ham supporter in the stand below when the two sides met at Molineux on 29 January.

Despite having initially claimed it was an accident, CCTV installed at the ground proved that she had done so maliciously - leading to the ban.

"An away supporter contacted a steward saying someone had thrown down a pie and it had hit them on the head," said Prosecutor Roger Blezzard. "CCTV was reviewed and identified a female had intentionally dropped the pie. It was dropped from a higher vicinity.

"She had been a season ticket holder for many years. She had consumed two pints of alcohol and something from a hip flask. She was in a relationship that had broken down and was going to football as a release.

“She initially said it was an accident, but when shown CCTV admitted she got excited and carried away. She thought it would be funny to hit a supporter, she was not trying to hurt anyone."

Defending Ms Johnson, Mr Richard Quinn confirmed that she was currently going through a divorce: "She did something she would normally not dream of doing," he said. "She is very, very sorry."

West Ham supporter TootingRob, posting on KUMB following the game was one of those targeted by Wolves fans in the stands above. "They were spitting down on us and throwing pies," he said. "The poor bugger next to me was covered."

In addition to the three-year ban, the Wolves fan was fined £300 and ordered to pay costs and a victim surcharge to the unnamed West Ham supporter.
