Samuelsen on way home?

Reports tonight are suggesting that Martin Samuelsen's loan spell with Dutch Eredivisie side VVV Venlo is to be brought to a premature end with the player set to return to his native Norway.

Norwegian TV Channel TV2 is reporting that the player is likely to join his home town team FK Haguesund on loan in advance of the start of the Norwegian season which commences at the end of March.

Although capped at full international level by the Norwegians, Samuelsen's career has failed to take off since he signed from the Manchester City Academy in 2015, and the last of those three full caps came in 2016.

Much of the attacking midfielder's West Ham career has been spent elsewhere on loan, with spells at Peterborough, Blackburn and Burton Albion occupying most of the last three seasons. In August 2018 the 21 year-old signed a one-year loan deal with VVV Venlo but has failed to make any significant impact in the Netherlands. Although he has 10 league appearances for the Veniose Trots, he has played just one minute of football in their last eight league matches, prompting speculation of a move to The Arabs, who finished fourth in the 16-team top flight in Norway last season.

We'll have more on this as the story develops.
