Manchester City boss Pep Guardiola admitted to being delighted with his team's performance as they edged past West Ham courtesy of a controversial penalty.

Substitute Bernardo Silva appeared to go down inside the box rather too easily for some - including West Ham manager Manuel Pellegrini - but it was enough for referee Stuart Atwell to point to the spot.

Sergio AgŁero stepped up to convert the resulting penalty, which was enough to earn all three points for the title-chasers. Yet despite failing to extend their lead thereafter, Guardiola insisted that he was pleased by his team's efforts.

"We played so well," he said. "Of course, when you look at the result it could be better but we created an incredible number of chances and could've been 2-0 up inside the first five minutes."
