It's a dream come true

West Ham United's latest debutant says he hopes to get another opportunity to feature for the first team soon.

Full back Ben Johnson - who signed his first pro contract with the club little more than a year ago - was a surprise call-up to the starting XI that were narrowly beaten 1-0 at Manchester City last night.

And following a decent debut, in which he largely kept City's £60million signing Riyad Mahrez quiet, the Academy star says he cannot wait to have another crack at the Premier League.

"It was a great occasion," the 19-year-old told whufc.com. "Iíve been waiting around for it the whole day, but I enjoyed it a lot and it was a great experience to be out there against the best. Thatís who I want to be playing against.

"The gaffer put me in the starting eleven during the set pieces at training earlier and thatís when I knew, so I just got prepared for it."

And even though he was replaced after an hour by the experienced Pablo Zabaleta, Johnson believes that he made a good impression on his first Premier League start for the senior side.

"I felt I did OK," he mused. "I just need to pick up on a few things, watch it back and improve my game. I felt confident out there and I'm ready to go again.

"I want to be here more often now. This is what I dreamed of as a kid, being here is great and hopefully thereís more to come."

Johnson, who became the first homegrown player born in the current century to feature in a league fixture for the club when facing Manchester City on Wednesday evening has been at West Ham since the age of seven.

A nephew of former England and Manchester United star Paul Parker and cousin to Tottenham's Ledley King, he was first named as a substitute by Slaven Bilic two years ago - also for an away game at Manchester City.

A right-back by trade, he has been a regular fixture in Liam Manning's Under 23s squad this season.
