West Ham United midfielder Declan Rice has been named as Young Player of the Year at the London Football Awards.

The ceremony, held in Battersea on Thursday night saw the 20-year-old crowned as the capital's best young player in a star-studded ceremony.

Rice was recently the centre of much controversy following his decision to represent England at full international level despite having represented Ireland in non-competitive fixtures in the past.

Yet on Thursday night he beat off competition from Aaron Wan-Bissaka (Palace), Matteo Guendouzi (Arsenal), Eberechi Eze (QPR) and Karlan Grant (Charlton) to land the prized award.

"It's a huge honour to be here tonight and it's very special for me to have this award in my hands," said Rice.

"I want to say thank you to my manager, Manuel Pellegrini, for believing in me and trusting me this season, and giving me the opportunity.

"I also want to thank my teammates and my family; my mum, dad, brothers, and girlfriend, because without them I wouldn't be here today."

West Ham's other nomination, Lukasz Fabianski, was beaten in the Goalkeeper of the Year category by Watford's Ben Foster. QPR's Joe Lumley, Charlton's Dillon Phillips and Chelsea's Kepa Arrizabalaga were also nominated.
