Post-match press conference: Manuel Pellegrini v Newcastle Utd [audio]

Manuel Pellegrini confessed to being "very happy" at what he described as a "solid" performance by his team, following West Ham's 2-0 defeat of Newcastle in Stratford.

And he reserved special praise for young midfielder Declan Rice - who the boss insisted had "improved so much" since the season began - and the returning Manuel Lanzini, who Pellegrini claimed "changed our style of play".

20-year-old Rice scored the first of West Ham's two goals before Mark Noble added another from the penalty spot to secure a relatively comfortable win against Newcastle, who showed little evidence of their recent good form.

"The first came from a very good corner by [Robert] Snodgrass and the second through good movement from Javier Hernandez, from the free kick," said Pellegrini, who admitted that West Ham's recent success at set-pieces was not the result of any unscheduled or additional training ground input.
