Snodgrass facing huge FA fine

Filed: Monday, 4th March 2019
By: Staff Writer

West Ham winger Robert Snodgrass has been charged by the FA for using "abusive and/or insulting words" towards a doping official.

And as a result he could be fined up to 12,000 if found guilty of the charge, which relates to an incident at West Ham's Rush Green training ground earlier this month.

"Robert Snodgrass has been charged with a breach of FA Rule E3(1)," read a statement posted on the FA's website on Monday afternoon.

"It is alleged the player used abusive and/or insulting words towards UK Anti-Doping officials who were visiting West Ham United's training ground on 6 February 2019 to conduct out-of-competition testing. He has until 18 March 2019 to respond."

Rule E3 relates to standard penalty guidelines for abusive or insulting language; if the charge is admitted Snodgrass will be fined 8,000 as a Premier League player (the fine reduces to 2,000 for Championship players) and banned for one match.

However should Snodgrass deny the charge and subsequently be found guilty by a regulatory commission, he could face a massive fine of 12,000 and a two-match ban.

West Ham United are yet to respond to the charge.
