Declan Rice's decision to switch allegiance from Ireland to England has been green-lighted by FIFA.

The 20-year-old Hammer revealed his decision to represent England at international level last month despite having already featured for the senior Republic team in three friendlies.

And a FIFA spokesman confirmed on Tuesday that the switch had been given the seal of approval, following an application from the England camp.

That leaves Rice eligible for selection for England's two Euro 2020 qualifiers - against the Czech Republic and Montenegro - later this month.

The defensive midfielder was watched on Saturday by England manager Gareth Southgate's assistant Steve Holland, a game in which he scored the opening goal of a 2-0 win over Newcastle United.

Southgate is set to name his latest England squad for the Euro 2020 qualifiers early next week - although there are no guarantees that Rice will be involved.

"I think itís fair to say I have spoken with him but I have not promised anything because I donít think thatís right," said Southgate recently, when quizzed about Rice's potential inclusion.

"It would be easy whether you are with club or national association to promise people things but I canít promise players who were with us at the World Cup that they will be involved in six monthsí time."
