Inter's Portuguese midfielder Joao Mario says that he is pleased to be playing his football in Italy once more as English fans are "too quiet".

The 26-year-old spent half a season on loan at West Ham between January and May 2018 which included making eight appearances at the Olympic Stadium.

And he insisted that crowds in Italy are much more lively that their all-seated English counterparts.

Speaking about his renaissance at the Serie A club - one which he previously urged fellow players to stay away from - Mario referred to the "warmth" of Inter and Italian football fans.

"You learn from your mistakes and that was a mistake," he admitted. "I have to respect a team like Inter who spent so much to sign me, and Iím very happy to have been given a second chance here.

"The Inter fans were also crucial. For them, I was both an idol and a bad player. It would be great if I found the right balance. Iíve been in England and theyíre all too quiet there. I prefer the warmth of our fans."

Mario, who was a key component in helping West Ham avoid relegation from the Premier League during the 2017/18 season had to wait until the end of October before making his first appearance of the 2018/19 campaign for Inter.

However since helping his side to a 3-0 win at Lazio that day, the £40million-rated Portuguese international has become a firm fixture in manager Luciano Spalletti's first XI - making a further 17 first team appearances since.
