We must improve away from home, says Pellegrini

Manuel Pellegrini has called upon his team to continue their good form when they travel to South Wales this weekend.

The West Ham manager hailed his team's recent home performances that have resulted in just one defeat in the last five games - that coming in a 1-0 defeat at Manchester City.

And Pellegrini called upon his team to recapture their excellent away from from earlier in the season when they face lowly Cardiff on Saturday, in order to ensure West Ham remain in the battle for seventh spot and a potential Europa League place.

"We have to play four more home games, so our target is not to lose any more points and to stay unbeaten," Pellegrini told the assembled media during his pre-match press conference.

"Then we must improve the number of points we get away from home, starting at Cardiff on Saturday.

"Cardiff are playing at home and will try to add points as they want to try to avoid relegation and they are not many points behind the other teams. We need to be fast, play with a high tempo and be aggressive.

"I remember my first defeat with Manchester City was at Cardiff when they scored from two corners.

"So we need to play for 95 minutes and concentrate on every ball. We need to beat Cardiff and play well. We need to finish that game before we think about the next rival, whether it be Huddersfield or Chelsea."
