Renewal deadline extended following fans revolt

Filed: Friday, 22nd March 2019
By: Staff Writer

The deadline for season ticket renewal has been delayed by a fortnight following multiple complaints from supporters.

Earlier today West Ham announced that the previously-announced deadline of May 17 was being put back until the end of the month - 31 May - thereby complying with an earlier request from the West Ham United Independent Supporters Association (WHUISA).

Additionally the deadline for payment plan applications is set to remain at May 17, whilst the window for season ticket relocations opens on June 3 following almost unanimously-negative feedback across Hammers Forums and social media to the recently-announced 'inflation-busting' price rises.

However unlike in previous seasons, when the club were forced to make financial concessions as a result of pressure from angry supporters, the sharp rise in season ticket prices will remain unaffected.

Despite meeting with Board members last night, the recently formed Official Supporters Board (OSB) - who have been accused of being "undemocratic" and little more than club stooges - were unable to secure any reduction in costs to supporters.

Yet that still didn't prevent the much-maligned group from claiming ownership of the club's decision to delay the renewal deadline, which the OSB's chair, David Baker, insisted was evidence of a successful partnership.

"I am pleased that the club took on board our feedback and they have acted by extending the renewal deadline," said Baker. "It's great that we have a positive outcome for our fellow season ticket holders."
