West Ham set for new neighbours?

West Ham United could be set for new neighbours after plans for a giant "entertainment sphere" in Stratford were submitted.

The Madison Square Garden Company (MSG) are the firm behind plans for a 90 metre-tall circular building on a site neighbouring the Olympic Stadium - which could be open with three to four years.

"This is an opportunity to take an inaccessible coach park and use it to support thousands of jobs, and billions of pounds of economic benefit," said MSG's Executive Vice President of Development and Construction Jayne McGivern.

"Our plans make training and local hiring a priority and would create a premier destination that serves as a long-term investment in the future of Newham, London, and the UK.

"If our plans are approved, we believe MSG Sphere will complement London’s existing venues and drive overall growth in the music and entertainment market – benefiting residents, artists and fans."

However the group's plans are already being challenged by local residents, many of whom feel the giant building would be the cause of much pollution.

"It is a giant dome that will be lit up all over with advertising," said KUMB member and local resident Stratford1234.

"Although the idea of it sounds great, it is bang in the middle of a residential area and will be towering over many of our homes causing light pollution, sound pollution, traffic and parking chaos.

"It is a nightmare getting through the station and to the stadium on a match day. Imagine if there are also 25,000 more people travelling through it?"
