Snodgrass leading the way

Winger Robert Snodgrass is currently leading the race to provide most assists for West Ham this season.

The Scottish international, who was sent out on loan to Championship side Aston Villa in 2017/18 having been described by vice chair Karren Brady as an "ill-fitting player" who "wasn't exactly a triumph", has quietened his critics by providing TEN assists for the Hammers already this season.

And he is closely followed by another Hammer who may have thought his career at the club was coming to an end in Michail Antonio, who has seven assists to his name so far this term - whilst record signing Felipe Anderson is currently third, with six assists.

However Snodgrass' value to the squad is even more evident when assessing those players who have provided what we have referred to as 'key contributions' to West Hams goals this season - as you may see in the following table.

With one point awarded for providing a 'key contribution' - ie playing a major role in the build-up to a goal - and two points allocated for an assist, the Scot is way out in front of anyone else in the current squad in 2018/19.

2018/19 Key Contributors: Top Ten

1. Robert Snodgrass: 31 pts
2. Felipe Anderson: 20 pts
3. Michail Antonio: 16 pts
4. Mark Noble: 15 pts
5. Declan Rice: 11 pts
6. Marko Arnautovic: 10 pts
7. Javier Hernandez: 9 pts
8. Aaron Cresswell: 8 pts
9. Grady Diangana: 7 pts
9. Pablo Zabaleta: 7 pts

Meanwhile, the top ten for assists only currently reads as follows.

2018/19 Most Assists

1. Robert Snodgrass: 10 assists
2. Michail Antonio: 7
3. Felipe Anderson: 5
4. Marko Arnautovic: 4
4. Javier Hernandez: 4
6. Mark Noble: 3
7. Grady Diangana: 2
7. Arthur Masuaku: 2
7. Angelo Ogbonna: 2
7. Declan Rice: 2
