Independent fans group date confirmed

Hammers United, the recently-launched independent supporters group will be holding their next meeting in Plaistow this weekend ahead of the Southampton match.

Officially launched last month, the new group - which has already attracted several thousand members - will be meeting at the Plaistow Community Club this Saturday morning (May 4).

And all West Ham United supporters are invited to come along and meet the Hammers United team, who are keen to hear your views about the club and current affairs.

"Members of the committee will be at the Plaistow Community Club from approximately 10am onwards," a spokesman told KUMB.

"Come and say hello if you are already a member, give us your points of view. If you havenít already joined, come and meet us and hear what we have to say. All are welcome."

Unlike the unelected, club-appointed Official Supporters Board (OSB), which has no capacity to call West Ham's Board to account on any issues of major importance, Hammers United promise to challenge the club's heirachy should they fail to deliver on a string of previously-made promises.

And whilst they insist they are "not a protest group", the democratic fans collective - the committee of which were voted in by fellow members at their previous meeting - will not discount the possibility of mobilising supporters "if necessary, on a prolonged campaign of protest".
