Hammers target told to find new club

Hammers transfer target Gary Medel has been ordered to find a new club by his current employers Besiktas.

The 31-year-old central midfielder has been linked with a potential move to West Ham for more than a year now, with Manuel Pellegrini admitting that he came close to signing the Chilean international back in January.

At the time, West Ham pulled out of a deal to sign Medel - who signed a three-year contract with Besiktas in 2017 - as the Super Lig side unexpectedly demanded a transfer fee.

"The only player we had interest in was Gary Medel," said Pellegrijni, speaking at the beginning of February.

"They told us he was free and we were interested because he can play in two or three positions. But then it turned out the player was not free."

Despite that setback, Pellegrini could be enticed to return for his fellow countryman - who will be 32 by the time the 2019/20 Premier League season begins - given West Ham's reportedly-minimal transfer warchest and the need to bolster his central midfield options.
