Crucial summer ahead as West Ham United bid to kick on

West Ham United manager Manuel Pellegrini took a little time to get grips with things at the London Stadium, but he has established an excellent platform to build on for next season.

There have been numerous positives for the Hammers this term, none more so than the emergence of midfielder Declan Rice.

Pellegrini’s faith in the youngster has been rewarded with some superb performances and hanging on him to during the summer is vital.

With the addition of some additional quality in the next transfer window, wagering markets are seeing West Ham in a good place for European qualification in 2019/20. Keep your eyes on betting sites like BetEasy and see how the odds move with the club’s potential transfer targets.

Respect Southgate’s judgement on Shelvey

The Hammers have been linked with a move for Newcastle United midfielder Jonjo Shelvey, but he is a player the club would do well to avoid.

The 27-year-old has fallen down the pecking order at St James’ Park, with injury issues costing him his place in the first team.

This time last year Shelvey was being tipped as England’s midfield saviour, but manager Gareth Southgate rightly resisted the calls.

The odd successful ‘Hollywood’ ball aside, Shelvey’s overall output suggests he lacks the quality the Hammers should be adding to their squad.

Benfica wonderkid is one to watch

West Ham are one of many clubs across Europe showing a keen interest in signing Benfica wonderkid Joao Felix.

The Eagles have already turned down a £50 million bid for the 19-year-old – who is often dubbed as the next Cristiano Ronaldo – from an unnamed Premier League club.

Manchester United been linked with the youngster, but it is debatable whether they would be able to offer Felix a regular place in their starting line-up.

A move to West Ham would give him the game time his talent deserves and he would certainly be an exciting addition to the club’s forward ranks.

Fulham star worth pursuing

Aleksandar Mitrovic has had an excellent season with struggling Fulham and is one of the few positives to take out of their season.

The former Newcastle striker has shown that he is capable of scoring at this level and there will be plenty of suitors for him if Fulham return to the Championship.

There has been uncertainty over the futures of both Marko Arnautovic and Javier Hernandez, meaning strikers could be a transfer priority this summer.

Mitrovic’s style of play would quickly endear him to Hammers’ fans and he would be a superb signing for the club.
