Who will win the Premier League title?

Liverpool could have firmly gripped the title race in their hands when Manchester City slipped up against Newcastle.

However, they failed to capitalize on that opportunity by suffering a series of draws in the Premier League. A draw against Manchester United at Old Trafford was understandable, but dropping points against Leicester City, West Ham and Everton were unacceptable for a club challenging Guardiola's side to the Premier League title.

We do not mean to suggest here that Manchester City have all the advantage to win the Premier League title now. In fact, the last couple of matches have given a real boost to the title ambitions of Liverpool. The Reds fought with real energy against Tottenham and Chelsea at Anfield to grab the full points while they also came away unscathed from St. Mary's encounter. They also easily overcame Cardiff in their most recent fixture to put the pressure back on Manchester City.

Since it is turning out to be such a close contest between Liverpool and Manchester City, therefore it would be wrong to give a decided opinion. That is why placing your bet based on your gut feeling won't be a bad choice in this situation. Manchester City may seem to have a slight edge because they are a point ahead, but that edge may well disappear if they don't do well at Old Trafford against Manchester United.

1- Liverpool

Liverpool has 3 remaining Premier League matches in their 2018-19 season. They have two home matches to play against Huddersfield and Wolves while an away fixture at Newcastle is also remaining. They don't look like a daunting challenge for Jurgen Klopp's Liverpool whose team has full of talent and energy. It looks unlikely that any team would be able to breach a defense which is led by a defender like Virgil Van Dijk. And with Mane, Firmino, and Salah in the team, they have plenty of fire-power to exploit any little spaces that they are offered. Any team daring to play an open game against Liverpool can get brutally punished while nestling in their own half and hoping to score on the counter-attack is also less likely to work.

However, Liverpool will be under immense pressure to win all the remaining matches that could cause them to drop points. After all, they suffered a huge slip-up in 2014 under Brenden Rogers that gave the Premier League title to Manchester City. At that time, they were leading Manchester City quite easily but then suffered a defeat against Chelsea and a draw against Crystal Palace that effectively ended their title race. Therefore, Liverpool needs to be very careful this time to not repeat history again.

Particularly, the Newcastle match will be very important for Liverpool. Rafael Benitez's side has been performing very well and is quite capable of defeating any big team. Most recently, they defeated Southampton and Leicester City to keep themselves well clear of the relegation zone while a victory against Manchester City also came for them.

2- Manchester City

Manchester City certainly was not that impressive this season as they were in the previous one when they tumbled many records on their way to the Premier League title. First, Chelsea broke their Invincibles claim, then followed defeats at the hands of Crystal Palace, Leicester City, and Newcastle United. But Manchester City has been no less than perfect after these setbacks with victory after victory cementing their title claims. Among these victories, the 3-1 win against Arsenal and the 6-0 thrashing of Chelsea were quite notable.

Guardiola's side did suffer a huge heartbreak when they got knocked out of the Champions League quarterfinals after a very tight contest against Tottenham. However, that didn't seem to affect their league matches as they bounced back to get the 1-0 victory against Spurs at the Etihad.

Now they have to face Manchester United at Old Trafford and that can prove to be very crucial in the Premier League title race. If City comes out with full points at United, then it is unlikely that they will lose any points in the remaining matches and will win the league title. However, a draw or a defeat will put Liverpool back in the driving seat.
