A Message From The DL Clan

Postby -DL- on Fri Jun 28, 2019 7:56 pm

Dear All,

Myself, Mrs DL and Mini-DL would like to express our thanks and gratitude for the support, both financially and emotionally, on and off of here, and for everything people have done to make the battle of the past 7 months as bearable as possible.

It's been an up and down journey, not knowing what the future holds, but we got there. We did it - but we wouldn't have been able to do it without your, and UTJ's help - especially with what you all did regarding the Just Giving, which meant we were able to forget our money worries and just focus on getting better.

Well, now today, is the end of that road. Although I've still got 5 days of radiotherapy to go - my sickness at work has been signed off, and I start 2 weeks of annual leave, and I then return to work on 15th July, and some normality can return to our lives.

Obviously, due to the amazing response on here to the Just Giving set up by UTJ, we're unable to thank you all individually, but we know who you are, you know who you are - so thank you.

This site, and the supporters of this club, are something we can all be proud of - and it just shows how despite our differences of opinion, we can all come together when it's one of our own in need.

Once again, thank you KUMB, and thank you all of you. The fight is over.

COYI!

The DL Clan

Dyers...

I know it can often sound like a platitude to say that someone is a top fella when something awful happens to them - after all, despite all the clashes and differences of opinion on this site, not one of us would wish what's happened to you upon ANY person either here or elsewhere. I thought it worth saying that to hopefully emphasise that obviously we'd be delighted to hear that any member on here telling us this news and saying it how you have would be something to delight us all, but seriously, you do stand out on this site. You always make me laugh, and have that rare gift of occasionally expressing the odd view that I might disagree with but always respect what's behind it (most of the time I do happen to agree with you anyway!).

I hope that don't sound like I'm simply blowing smoke - hopefully it emphasises the opposite. If there was one poster on here that I could predict to have faced what you've faced with the attitude and fortitude you have, it'd be you. And I can only imagine all the dark times you couldn't share on here. It's another rare quality to simultaneously 'put a brave face' (hate that phrase but still!) on stuff and still be brutally honest about how tough it is. I can only say that what you've shared on here about it all should be cut + pasted as an example for anybody else who has to face anything equally tough.

Best of luck with everything to come pal, you know you've got a massive 2nd family on here behind you, which reflects what you said about the support of this club - I've often said that one or two of the threads on KUMB (the mental and physical illness ones in particular) reflect the unique family/community spirit of what has always made our support uniquely special in all circumstances - even today as the club becomes sanitised as a footballing/commercial entity, this stuff, the stuff that really matters, is the REAL West Ham that I've always understood and cherished.

And the offer still stands in perpetuity if ever you fancy a bit of Dorset fresh air - there's always a host here in Poole/Bournemouth when required (seriously it's f***ing stunning here right now, sea breeze and all that!).

Bless you mate, big love to you and yours (I know how tough it is for them too when this stuff happens). :crest:

That is fantastic that you are firmly on the road back to match fitness.

About time you stopped malingering round parks, dossing your life away taking pictures of walls, butterflies and strangely shaped dog poo and got back to doing some graft like the rest of us.
