Anything goes in The Snug, General Discussion's rebellious little brother. An off-topic den of iniquity where any subject not covered elsewhere may be discussed. Well, anything except golf, Star Wars and Arsenal.

IMO you need to go straight to his boss and ask why he was hired if he doesn't know how to plan and doesn't understand any IT. I've actually worked with loads of excellent IT PMs throughout my career, so the bad ones always stick out like a sore arse. The ones who are always flustered, panicking, give blank looks in meetings, insist that the company you both work for "does all the processes wrong", aggressively insist on you picking up the paperwork & comms because they haven't got a f*cking clue...
I'm a contractor for this supplier, the company itself is doing its best to shoot every foot in the proximity multiple times. I've spoken to his boss about my concerns, apparently he requested a number of PMs due to a shortage and he has been given a number. He has pretty much no say on who he is given. I'm pretty sure this guy has just been told that he is a PM without being given any training - no change there then.
It could be in the things that irritate me thread, but I'm taking the attitude that they are paying my invoices and I don't have to be very good to shine.

Ah, so you work for Americans, too?
US company but working with a load of Ex civil servants and people that have been here so long that they have the same attitude. Plus constant redundancies and cost cutting has destroyed morale.
Fair point about working with US companies and personnel, its shocking how bad they are.
DasNutNock wrote:A bit like when you hear anyone say the initial letters of SQL, rather than just saying it as "sequel", and you instantly think "how have you got a job in IT?".
That's can be a 'religious' issue or (less contentiously) a context-related one - for example "SQL Server" is almost always pronounced sequel, but the language is about 50:50 on sequel or S-Q-L and either are reasonable
DasNutNock wrote:Maybe. But the reality (at least, my reality) is that I've never met anyone who pronounces it as "ess queue ell" was even vaguely good at their job.
If I heard any "IT proffessional" pronounce "MySQL" as "My-ES-QUEUE-ELL" that'd convince me they were a chancer.
However I always pronounce "NoSQL" as "No-ES-QUEUE-ELL".

Found one in a retro shop today for thirty quid, and seeing as ERNIE emailed yesterday to say I'd won a pony, it's only cost me a fiver.
For fooksake, that's why ITC take an age to do anything.
Bloody pissing about on how to pronounce the terminology even before they do something, namely turning things off then back on again.

Dude ... we have to put up the facade that we actually know what we're doing whilst at the same time pissing off our core users

As someone who started in IT in 1975,I can tell you that it was always pronounced as SQL for a long time.
As far as I remember it was only when Microsoft came on the scene with their SQL servers that Sequel became the norm.
Maybe these guys are just old school like me, or maybe as you say they are ***** at their job.
I have a small community park outside my apartment.
there is a small school around the corner that uses the park for their break time. the kids play basketball, 12 a side football on a 4 a side field, play volleyball with a piece of string tied across two trees as a net.
there is a casa de abuelas (a day care for older folks) and they come out and walk around the park or play some silly games with a balloon and different things.
families come out and play football and are playing until late night around 10 sometimes with only the street lights to play by. again on the 4 a side field.
I have to say loads of times I go out onto the balcony and watch them and I really have to smile.
probably because it takes me back to my childhood when we all did this type of thing.
and then there's the teenagers sitting around being teenagers !!!!!!!
