Nordtveit began his footballing journey with Vats 94 (in 1997) before moving on to Skjold (2003). In 2006 he joined Haugesund where he became the youngest player ever to play for the club (two months after his 16th birthday).
In July 2007 he joined Arsenal for an initial £500,000 (rising to £2m with clauses that were never activated). He made his Arsenal debut at Barnet in July 2007 and later named captain of Arsenal's reserve squad.
Salamanca signed Nordtveit on loan in August 2008 but his six-month stint was cut short and he returned to Arsenal in October. In March he moved to Lillestrom on loan and the following season spent a year with Nuremberg before joining BMG on a three-and-a-half-year contract in December 2010.
After just over five years with BMG, it was exclusively revealed on KUMB.com
that Nordtveit would be joining West Ham on a free transfer. He made his debut in the 2-1 Europa League defeat against NK Domzale in July 2016.
