Carlton Cole has laughed off reports that he is set to leave West Ham.

The England striker has been linked with a number of clubs in recent weeks as the January transfer window approaches. But Cole laughed off the rumours, saying:

"It's just paper talk and I haven't heard anything about a move. I love West Ham. I just want to get back to playing and I can't do anything while I'm injured."

Cole, talking to the Standard also revealed that he hopes to be back in action sooner than suggested by some sources.

"Hopefully, I will be back some time in January," he confirmed. "I just need to get back fit and help the Hammers.

"I have to build up the muscles and do some rigorous rehab work to protect the knee and it is going to be like that for the rest of my career."

The 26-year-old striker has scored seven goals from his 15 appearances thus far this season and is well on course to beat his own personal record with half of the season still remaining.

And he attributed his recent success to United's under pressure manager Gianfranco Zola.

"It's natural when things are going bad that it's all doom and gloom but the manager is the best I have worked with," he said. "He's put faith in the players and we're trying to respond.

"We're just not getting the rub of the green at the moment - but we're working very hard."
