A 49-year-old Chigwell man has been charged with common assault after a grandfather was left with cuts and bruises following an attack on a train at Shenfield.

Pictures of a man in a West Ham shirt flooded the web after it was claimed that he had attacked the 70-year-old man - who was travelling home from a day out in London with his wife and three young grandchildren - on the London to Southend journey on Friday, 23rd August.

Raymond David West is due to appear at Basildon Magistrates' Court this Thursday charged with one count of common assault and one count of public order, according to the Brentwood Gazette.
