West Ham are being linked with a move for Newell's Old Boys teenage striker Ezequiel Ponce.

It has been claimed by Argentine sources that the 17-year-old - nicknamed 'Tank' - is the target of a local investment group who are seeking to purchase 50 per cent of the player's rights.

Further, it is reported that the group intend to 'park' Ponce at West Ham - an almost identical situation that led to a world record fine for the club in 2008 after they were found to have flouted league rules regarding third-party influence with regard to the Tevez & Mascherano transfers.

Argentinian daily La Capita wrote: "There is an intention to pay around $4million dollars for fifty per cent of the [player's] rights. In addition, a club in England was also mentioned as a destination: West Ham United."

Born in 1997, Ponce made his first team debut for Newell's at the age of 16 making him the youngest player ever to feature in the Argentinian top flight. He made 20 appearances in total for the Old Boys last season, scoring four goals.
