West Ham are keeping tabs on the situation regarding Queens Park Rangers' prolific striker Charlie Austin.

The 25-year-old goalscorer was linked with a move to Newcastle last week but the Magpies were told they would have to pay upwards of ?15million to land a player who notched 18 times for Rangers last season, despite them finishing bottom of the Premier League last season.

The Hammers have been keeping an eye on Austin's situation for some time and Rangers' relegation from the top flight means the Hungerford-born striker is almost certain to move on from Loftus Road this summer.

And key to the completion of any deal could be the involvement of Matt Jarvis, who barely featured under Sam Allardyce last season.

Now 29 and in the final year of his contract at West Ham, Jarvis was close to moving to Rangers during the January transfer window but the deal fell through at the last minute.

R's boss Chris Ramsey is however thought to remain keen on landing the former Wolves man, whilst West Ham are hoping a swap deal plus cash can tempt him to part company with Austin.
