Winston back for Soton test

Club Doc Stijn Vandenbroucke has confirmed that Winston Reid will return for this week's vital Premier League meeting with Southampton.

West Ham enter the game in the bottom three of the Premier League following consecutive 4-2 defeats to Watford and West Bromwich Albion.

But Slaven Biilc's squad will be boosted by the return of the Kiwi, who was absent from last weekend's reversal at the Hawthorns after sustaining a knock 24 hours ahead of the game.

"Winston suffered a injury in training on Friday and unfortunately the Premier League game at West Bromwich Albion came too early for him," Vandenbroucke told whufc.com.

"Winston has been training this week individually and will join team training after the Cup game [against Accrington Stanley] and be available for selection against Southampton on Sunday."

There was also good news regarding the progress of Aaron Cresswell, who is close to a return - despite initial reports suggesting he would be out of action until November. "Aaron is progressing well with his recovery from a knee injury," confirmed Vandenbroucke.

"He has been working on the pitch with rehab fitness coach Eamon Swift and will step up his work by training with the Under 23s in controlled sessions next week. If everything goes well and to plan, Aaron will re-join first-team training during the international break."

And whilst Andre Ayew and Diafra Sakho are still said to be some way away from being in a position to feature, striker Andy Carroll is close to a return.

"Andre Ayew and Diafra Sakho are both progressing well but it is too early to put an exact timeframe on their return to first-team action," added Vandenbroucke. "Andy Carroll is progressing well and will start training with Eamon during the final stages of his rehab ahead of joining first-team training."
