Carlton Cole could be set to make his return to English football - alongside former team mate Kevin Nolan.

Former Hammers' striker Cole has not played since leaving Celtic at the beginning of the current campaign, but could be set for a sensational return to league football with Notts County.

The League 2 side - who are under a transfer embargo at present due to outstading funds owed to HMRC - are currently managed by ex-Hammers captain Kevin Nolan, who was named as their new boss earlier this month.

And one of his first tasks was to call Cole to discover whether the 33-year-old striker would be interested in joining him at Meadow Lane.

"We have had a chat," Nolan told BBC Nottingham Sport. "It would be fantastic if I could bring him over.

"The best thing is to see if he is interested and we can work something out. He has a few things in the fire.

"He would be a breath of fresh air. He is a top pro and a good player. If we can make it happen and the embargo gets lifted, then we will try our best to do that."
