Gold seeking new goalscorer

David Gold says that the club are determined to bring in a new striker this summer.

With Andy Carroll and Diafra Sakho barely featuring at all last aseason, West Ham's forward options proved to be seriously limited - an issue that contributed to the club's meagre haul of just 47 Premier League goals and a goal difference of -17 (compared to +14 the season before).

And as a result, Gold insists that it is imperative the club bring in at least one new goalscorer ahead of the forthcoming 2017/18 campaign. 'It's clear to most fans that we are desperate for centre-forwards," he told Talksport.

"Andy Carroll is injury-prone as we know, we have had an injury problem with Sakho and we have just got to bring in centre-forwards. Without strikers, you struggle in the Premier League. You struggle in any division because strikers are your key players.

"You have to spend your money wisely but it must be on strikers, particularly strikers that have had experience with Premier League football... the very best we can afford."

West Ham's only first team arrival thus far this summer has been Pablo Zabaleta, signed on a free transfer from Manchester City.
