Manuel Lanzini has dismissed reports suggesting that he is set to miss the entirely of the 2018/19 season through injury.

Lanzini was responding to stories in Tuesday's media that suggested he could be sidelined for up to 15 months as a result of the horror injury sustained whilst training with Argentina ahead of the World Cup Finals.

And the 25-year-old laughed off false reports that claimed he had been ruled out for the whole of the forthcoming campaign - whilst insisting that he is hoping to return to first team action by the start of 2019.

"Some English media have said that my injury will make me miss next season, that there were problems with the surgery," Lanzini posted via his twitter timeline.

"None of this is true. The surgery went really well. Although I don't want to set a date, I expect to be ready to play at the beginning of 2019. Thank you."

Lanzini, who was set to be a key component of Argentina's World Cup bid this summer damaged ligaments in his knee during a training session less than 48 hours before the tournament began.

His country qualified for the competition's knock out phase courtesy of a last gasp, 2-1 win over Nigeria last night - Argentina's first win in Russia following a draw with Iceland and a crushing 3-0 defeat by Croatia.
