Manuel Pellegrini has confirmed that Javier Hernandez is back in training - but may not be available for Friday's night's trip to Brighton.

The Mexican forward last featured for the Hammers in the 1-0 home defeat against Wolves on September 1, since when he has been sidelined with what the club have referred to as "a virus".

However the 30-year-old was back in action at Rush Green this week, even though he is unlikely to feature against the Seagulls at the Amex Stadium. "Javier worked this week with the whole squad," said Pellegrini.

"I think he has recovered from his virus already and he may need some more days to recover his best shape, but he is not having any problems with his disease."

And there was also an update from the manager with regards to the status of other members of the first team squad.

"We are keeping an eye on every situation with different players," he added. "It’s difficult for every player to be 100 per cent fit in every game. All players have some problems.

"Andy [Carroll] is working a little bit more, not only in the gym but also on the pitch. I hope we will recover him as soon as we can, but I think he needs a couple of weeks more.

"The important thing with Marko [Arnautovic] is, maybe he had a little bit of pain, but he didn’t work too much and he played with a lot of intensity. That’s very important for us."
