Pablo Zabaleta admits that West Ham have not been consistent enough throughout January.

United began the month in reasonably good form, coming from 2-0 behind against Brighton to secure a draw before beating Arsenal and Birmingham in Stratford.

However since then, the team's form has dropped like a stone - resulting in consecutive defeats against Bournemouth, Wimbledon and last night, Wolverhampton Wanderers.

"It was a bad game, a bad performance and we got beaten by a better team," said the experienced full back in reference to last night's defeat at Molineux. "It's been a really tough two weeks.

"We won against Arsenal and everyone was happy about that, but then we lost three games in a row and had an especially bad defeat against Wimbledon in the FA Cup, then again on Tuesday night.

"It’s hard to take but, in football, you need to be ready for the good moments and the bad. In a difficult situation you need to have confidence just to look forward but, of course, we need to accept that we’ve not been good enough.

"We have five days until we play Liverpool, so we need to talk about what we need to do to improve. I hope we can do it because there are still 14 games to go until the end of the season and we want to get back to winning ways."

Historically, West Ham have often proven themselves capable of taking it to the nation's finest at any particular time whilst failing spectacularly against meagre opposition.

And Zaba hopes that will prove to be true when the Merseysiders visit east London next week. "Sometimes, when you play against a big team, it seems everyone is up for it," he surmised.

"The reality is, if you want to be a better team or if you want to be in a better position in the Premier League, you cannot go from winning against Arsenal at home to losing three games against middle-ranking teams and a League One team in the FA Cup..."
