Pablo Zabaleta has given the clearest indication yet that he is open to extending his contract at West Ham.

Speaking to El Intransigente about a future return to San Lorenzo - the club with whom Zabaleta began his professional career back in 2002 - he indicated that he was yet to decide his next step.

However the 34-year-old did not rule out potentially seeking an extended contract at West Ham, with his two-year deal - signed in 2017 - set to expire at the end of the current season.

"My contract in England ends in June and I have the possibility of renewing," said Zabaleta, "but football changes and I'll wait for the right moment [before making a decision].

"Right now I feel happy here and my family is happy living in London. I've spent most of my career in England, I've been here for 11 seasons.

"I came to West Ham to continue playing and have more game time. I've started 80 per cent of the games and this is what I was looking for."

And in response to the possibility of one day returning to the club where his long and illustrious career started, Zabalata added: "I have huge affection for the people - you do not forget the club.

"I always want to collaborate as much as possible. My personal future is another matter and we will see what happens."
