We could've lost by six, admits Rice

Declan Rice says that West Ham were so poor they could have conceded "five or six goals" in Saturday's defeat against Everton.

The 20-year-old England international admitted that West Ham were disjointed and distinctly second best against the Toffees in Stratford, as the Hammers saw their chances of qualifying for Europe become even slimmer.

"It wasnít good enough for us from the first minute to the last," Rice told whufc.com. "Everton could have had five or six goals. We were too slow, too lethargic and they were first to every ball.

"We didnít even create a chance - that sums it up, we lost and didnít get the three points to get to seventh.

"Itís been an up and down season. We had a bad start, then gained some form and itís been like that. With the squad weíve got we should be [chasing] seventh and every chance weíve had to move seventh weíve lost and ruined that opportunity. We need to do better."

Rice's thoughts were echoed by full back and captain for the day Aaron Cresswell, who admitted that the Hammers were simply not "good enough" to make a game of it.

"It was a bad day at the office," he said. "Everton fully deserved the win. We weren't good enough throughout the whole game, particularly in the first half. It wasn't good enough.

"They went 2-0 up and that was too hard to come back from. It was one of those days, and we need to put it behind us now. We are now looking forward to our last six games.

"We won three on the bounce and against Huddersfield we were 3-1 down, then we came back to win the game. The manager said that to us at half-time, about that game, but it wasn't to be."
