West Ham United summer transfer target Rafael has dismissed talk of a move to London by insisting that he wishes to remain in France.

The 28-year-old former Manchester United full back is out of contract with Lyon this summer, a situation that has seen him linked with a move to Stratford in recent months.

However the chances of West Ham landing the experienced Brazilian have taken a turn for the worse after Rafael revealed that his main priority is to remain in France.

"We are still in discussion with the club," he said. "We will await the final decision. In any case, I want to stay in Lyon.

"We'll see what happens at the end of the season; I still want to play football for five or six years. Nevertheless, the end of my career is approaching and I try to enjoy even more.

"I feel like I have a good relationship with the fans here. That's why I want to stay. It's important for me to know that people like me. I still have more desire to play.

"I love my life in Lyon. I think the fans also want me to stay."

The Petropolis-born right back - whose full name is Rafael Pereira da Silva - moved to Ligue 1 in 2015 in a cut-price ?2.5million deal following a seven-year stint at Manchester United, for whom he hade more than 100 first team appearances.

He began his career at Fluminese but failed to make a single appearance for the club before both he and brother Fabio joined Manchester United as teenagers.
