A new American TV drama that recently premiered on Netflix is centred on a fictitious town called West Ham.

The Society, cited as "a Lord of the Flies-inpired drama" is based in the small suburban town of West Ham where, rather ironically given the recent issues with mysterious odours in Stratford, local residents are forced to live with an overwhelming smell which soon causes problems.

And when a group of teenage campers return to the town following a short break in the wilderness, they discover the entire town to be deserted - and with no way of leaving the area, which is surrounded by what has been termed "an infinite forest".

The group eventually splits into two main factions - but not before renaming their town New Ham - another nod to (the real) east London.

The series, which was released in its entirety on 10 May was mainly filmed in Lancaster, Massachusetts despite being set in the fictional Connecticut town. It stars the likes of Kathryn Newton (Big Little Lies) and Liu Bordizzo (The Great Showman) and is available now via Netflix.
