Transfer latest: Ceballos, Hayden and other stories

West Ham United are currently going head-to-head with Arsenal over Lorient midfielder Alexis Claude-Maurice.

According to latest reports from France, Arsenal's bid of ?9million was trumped by West Ham's ?10million offer 24 hours later (writes journalist Mohamed Toubache-Ter).

However the Gunners are expected to come back with an improved offer closer to the EUR15million sought by Lorient, who have reluctantly agreed to sell the teenage star, who has scored 14 goals for the club this season.

Claude-Maurice, who operates primarily on the wing but is not averse to featuring in a central role is also being watched by the likes of Monaco and Borussia Monchengladbach.

* West Ham are one of three London clubs cited with having expressed an interest in signing Real Madrid midfielder Dani Ceballos.

The 22-year-old is one of several players set to leave the Spanish giants this summer and West Ham, Arsenal and Tottenham have all expressed interest in signing the player.

However Ceballos has made no secret of his desire to remain at Santiago Bernabeu this summer and beyond. ""I am very ambitious as I have four more years at Madrid and a high [release] clause, and my goal is to succeed at Real Madrid and I think I'm going to do so," he said.

"Zidane has always been clear to me and he has never sold me a pup. I am not going to tell you what he has told me because it is private, but he has been very clear in both of his spells."

* Aston Villa are the latest club to enter the race for long-term Hammers target Maxi Gomez.

West Ham pulled out of the race to sign the Celta Vigo goalscorer after his current club refused to drop their asking price of close to ?40million for the 22-year-old striker.

However Villa, who returned to the Premier League via the play offs are understood to have registered their interest in signing Gomez according to acquaintance Ney Castillo, the president of his former club Defensor Montevideo.

* Andre Sch?rrle is believed to favour a move to West Ham - even though United's interest in the former Fulham star is believed to have cooled.

Sch?rrle, 28, was due to spend two seasons on loan with the Cottagers but returned to parent club Borussia Dortmund after just 12 months following Fulham's relegation from the Premier League.

Despite having received offers from clubs in Turkey, the midfielder - who will be a free agent at the end of next season - is reported to expressed a preference for remaining in the Premier League and specifically, London.

* West Ham's pursuit of Isaac Hayden is set to intensify after Andre Gomes declared his intention to complete a permanent move to Everton.

Rated around the ?15million mark, the Essex-born midfielder began his career at Arsenal before moving to Newcastle in 2016, where the 24-year-old has become a stable fixture in Rafa Benitez's first XI.

* Manuel Lanzini is being linked with a return to Argentina, after River Plate expressed interest in taking the mercurial midfielder back home.

The Argentine international recently returned from a year-long absence to end the season strongly at West Ham who are considering exercising the two-year extension in his contract, initially signed in 2016.
