Malaga to profit from Fornals arrival

The former club of both Pablo Fornals and Mario Husillos are to receive a small windfall as a result of West Ham's latest transfer.

Segunda Division side Malaga CF are set to receive a payment in the region of €675,000 after West Ham paid Fornals' latest club, Villareal, some €27million to land the 23-year-old.

And that's because a clause in the contract that saw the attacking midfielder move to Estadio de la Cerámica in 2017 guaranteed Malaga 2.5 per cent of any future sale.

Fornals, who spent five years at Malaga between 2012 and 2017 completed his move to West Ham on Friday - a deal Director of Football Husillos, who has known the player since their time together at Malaga was delighted to get over the line.

"He is a player we have monitored closely for some time, having seen him make excellent progress as a young midfielder in one of the best leagues in the world," Husillos told whufc.com.

"I personally have followed his career since he was a youth player with me at Malaga, and I know we have signed an incredible professional and an incredible character.

"To represent Spain as a full international at the age of 20, and then to have made over 150 appearances in La Liga by the age of 23, is a sign of great quality. He joins us a young player still with many years ahead of him.

"We believe that his style and ability complements perfectly the midfielders already at the club. We look forward to seeing the impact he will have in a West Ham shirt and believe that he has all of the qualities required to become a big success in the Premier League."

Fornals first task following the announcement of his arrival in London will be to represent Spain's Under 21s against their Italian counterparts in Bolgna this weekend.
