Double deal still on the table

The ongoing saga involving West Ham's battle to sign Celta forward Maxi Gomez enters another week.

However West Ham are currently considered very much second favourites to land the 22-year-old, with Valencia though to be in the driving seat having matched West Ham's bid for the 22-year-old.

Both West Ham and Valencia are understood to have made offers in the region of £25million for Gomez (writes Jacob Steinberg), although the La Liga side can offer the player Champions League football next season.

That, combined with the fact that Gomez is already settled in Spain makes Los Ches favourites to secure the Uruguayan's signature - even though no bids have currently been accepted.

* West Ham's attempt to lure Eibar's Joan Jordan to England will also continue this week.

The midfielder - who created more goalscoring chances in La Liga last season that any player bar Valencia's experienced Daniel Parejo - was tipped to join Seville before West Ham made their interest known.

Now the two clubs are competing to land one of La Liga's most in-form players, whose current contract includes a minimum fee release clause of just €15million.

Sevilla are reported to have made an opening offer of 12million for the 24-year-old, who came through Espanyol's youth system before joining Eibar in 2017 due to a lack of first team opportunities.
