Payet rumours split fanbase

Hammers fans are split over the potential return of Dimitri Payet, according to a KUMB poll.

However the number of supporters voting in preference for the former French international to be offered a second spell in Stratford exceeds those not wanting to see him return.

Earlier in the week it was revealed that the Payet could be on the verge of leaving Marseille, the club to which he returned after two highly-productive seasons at West Ham.

As a result we asked our Forum readers and Twitter followers whether they would be keen to see the 32-year-old in a claret and blue shirt once more.

At the time of writing the Forum voted in favour of re-signing Payet by 53% to 42% (the remaining 5% voting unsure) - whilst KUMB's twitter channel produced a similar result, with 52% voting for and 48% against.

"It's a yes from me if we can get him for next to nothing and we get the same player that we had in 2015/6," wrote KUMB member bracknellhammer.

"His goal against Middlesbrough is probably the best goal that I've ever seen scored with my own eyes. Had it been Lionel Messi etc. it would still be shown on every football programme."

A view shared by fellow KUMB Forum member Row X, who added: "The game for me is about entertainment, I go to football to watch players do stuff I can't do on a pitch. Payet gives that in bucket loads."

However Graza adopted a rather more cautionary approach, urging West Ham to tread carefully if genuinely considering making an approach for Payet.

"The problem is when he thinks something 'better' is on for him and he spits the dummy out, fractures the dressing room and tanks our season," he wrote.

" It writes itself, and with the number of younger talents we have at the moment it is higher stakes than last time he did it to us."
