West Ham's latest signing Pablo Fornals was one of the best players on the park as Spain reached the European Under 21 Championship Final courtesy of a 4-1 defeat of France.

Despite not getting on the score sheet this time around, United's £24million signing - who featured for a full 90 minutes - played a major role in Reggio as the Spanish came from behind to set up a tantalising Final against Germany.

Jean-Philippe Mateta gave the French an early advantage before goals from Marc Roca and Mikel Oyarzabal sent Spain into the half time half time interval with a narrow lead.

That lead was extended within the opening moments of the second half by Dani Olmo, before Borja Mayoral completed the rout - courtesy of a Fornals cross - with a fourth Spanish goal on 66 minutes.

Spain made their way through to the semi final stage having topped qualifying Group A on goal difference, having finished level on (six) points with both Italy and Poland.

Fornals had previously made his mark with goals against both Belgium and Poland having played just 23 minutes of the 3-1 defeat against Italy, Spain's opening game of the tournament.

Introduced at half time against the Belgians in their following match, he scored in the fifth minute of added-on time to win the game 2-1 for Spain and keep their Championship hopes alive.

Rewarded with a starting place for the final group game against Poland, Fornals opened the scoring in the 17th minute before the Spanish strolled to a 5-0 win - a victory that resulted in them topping Group A and securing a place in the semis.

The Final between Spain and Germany, who defeated Romania 4-2 in the second semi final, will take place this Sunday at Udinese's Dacia Arena.
