West Ham United have confirmed the sale of forward Marko Arnautovic to Chinese Super League team Shanghai SIPG - for an undisclosed fee.

The news was confirmed by the club in what is possibly the briefest briefing ever posted on the club's website, measuring just two lines of text containing a total of 45 words.

"West Ham United can confirm that Marko Arnautovic has joined Chinese Super League champions Shanghai SIPG for an undisclosed fee," read the statement.

"The 30-year-old Austrian departs after two seasons at London Stadium, during which he scored 22 goals in 65 appearances in claret and blue."

Arnautovic, one of only five Hammers to register ten goals or more in back-to-back seasons during the Premier League era is understood to have cost the Chinese club €25million (£22.4million).

In his first season at West Ham - the 2017/18 campaign - Arnautovic ended the season as the club's leading goalscorer, with 11 to his name despite having to wait until December to score his first (in a 1-0 win over Chelsea).

And it was a feat he repeated the following term, when also scoring 11 goals - with his last goal for the club coming on the final day of the season in the 4-1 win at Watford.

Arnautovic's former club Stoke are set to receive a share of the profits from the player's sale, although that is a negligible amount given that West Ham paid £20million for the player just two years ago.
