West Ham United have wasted no time in bringing in new players to strengthen last seasons squad, making three major signings in just a week.

The first of those signings was German defender Laura Vetterlein. 27-year-old Vetterlein joins from Bundesliga side SC Sand where she had spent the past 4 season having moved on from Wolfsburg in 2015.

A centre back by trade, Vetterlein is also capable of playing at left back adding valuable depth to the West Ham squad.

Matt Beard will be hoping the experienced defender will help tighten a defence that conceded 37 goals last season - the fifth highest in the division.

Second to join The Hammers was 23-year-old American attacker Martha Thomas. Thomas moves to West Ham from French side Le Havre, having helped them to a second-place finish in Feminine Division 2.

Starting her career in her native America, Thomas played for the Charlotte 49ers, scoring 47 goals in just 78 senior appearances; her impressive scoring record earning the transfer to France where she spent one season before joining West Ham.

Thomas will take the number nine shirt vacated by last season's top scorer Jane Ross following her transfer to Manchester United.

The third and final of the club's week of signings comes in the form of 18-year-old Australian forward Jacynta Galabadaarachchi.

She moves from Australia having played for Melbourne and Perth Glory, winning the W-League with Melbourne and finishing 4th in the same league with Perth Glory.

Galabadaarachchi has represented her country at Under 17 level and was called into the senior team's training camp at the age of just 16 before the 2017 Algarve cup.

The young Australian will take the number 15 shirt vacated by midfielder Brianna Visalli, who left the club to join Birmingham City after the expiry of her contract.
