The London Stadium is set to host it’s first Women’s Super League match.

Matt Beard’s women’s side will take on newly promoted Tottenham Hotspur at The London Stadium on Sunday 29 September.

The announcement comes after the Women’s FA suggested that Women’s Super League fixtures could be double-billed alongside Premier League matches.

Speaking in July, Kelly Simmons, the FA director of the Women’s game told BBC Radio 5 Live: "We have already announced the fixtures for the first game and you will see coming out of that there will be a series of games in men’s stadiums as part of trying to build an audience.

"We know that there is a massive potential audience of fans coming across from the men’s game and the men’s clubs across to their women’s team, we are seeing very much a one-club ethos.

"There is a massive chance for the game to pull those across this season with the Women’s Super League and get more people coming to games."

Though the first Women’s fixture at the London Stadium will not coincide with the Men’s teams match against Bournemouth, with that match taking place the day before on the 28th of September.

The Tottenham fixture was originally to be held at the Women’s usual ground – the Rush Green Stadium – but has been moved to the London Stadium in a hope to boost attendances and interest in the Women’s game.

West Ham United are scheduled to play local rivals Tottenham three times in just eight weeks.

A friendly match took place at The Rush Green Stadium last weekend, which will be followed by the Women’s Super League Match at The London Stadium and finally, the Continental Cup fixture on the 20th of October, again at The Rush Green Stadium.
