I've been threatened, says Rice

Declan Rice has revealed how he received a series of threats via social media following his decision to represent England at international level.

The 20-year-old Hammer is poised to make his sixth appearance for England when they face Kosovo in a Euro 2020 qualifier on Tuesday evening.

That follows his decision to change allegiance from the Republic of Ireland last year - a decision, that Rice says, led to a string of abusive and threatening posts via social media.

"I've had people saying they're going to come to my house," he told ITV News. "You click on their profile and they'd just be a fake profile, so you don't know whether it's true or not.

"Thinking about it, I was never actually scared about it, because always fans are going to be giving me abuse and whatnot over it. You just kind of look at it and laugh.

"You think, 'Yeah, all right, as if you're going to come and do that type of thing'."

In addition to the abuse from what were presumably disgruntled Irish supporters, the England international has recently been the target of some England supporters.

Following the 4-0 win over Bulgaria on Saturday, Rice was subject to yet more negative feedback which following disparaging comments by ex-England defender Phil Neville.

The former Manchester United player insisted that Rice shouldn't have been able to represent England having previously played for Ireland.

"What Gary Neville said as well, he can have that opinion if he wants and I can't change that," Rice responded. "But now I am playing for England, you know I'm going to do everything I can to play the best I can for this country."

West Ham's Rice, who made his full international debut against the Czech Republic in March this year has since featured against Montenegro, in the recent Nations League Finals and most recently against the Bulgarians.
