Sebastien Haller has not ruled out the possibility of representing his country on the international stage.

And he believes that signing for West Ham United has offered him the opportunity to stake a claim for a place in Didier Deschamps' squad.

The 25-year-old - who also qualifies for the Ivory Coast - has hit the ground running since switching to the Premier League in a club record ?40million move from Eintracht Frankfurt.

And speaking ahead of West Ham's trip to Aston Villa next Monday he believes that should he continue his rich vein of form, he could yet force his way into Deschamps' reckoning.

"I would like to play for France," he said. "You never know what can happen, but it is not possible for the moment. I think it is about profile.

"I need to get my statistics up and score goals. I did it in Holland, I did it in Germany and now I want to do it in England - just to prove to myself and show I can be effective.

"I think West Ham was a good club to show this. The whole team is there to perform well so I have to show I can perform in England. I put pressure on myself every day."

The latest French squad featured only three players who could be considered out-and-out strikers in Barcelona's Antoine Griezmann, Jonathan Ikone of Lille and Chelsea veteran Olivier Giroud.

Haller has scored three times for West Ham since making his record-breaking move to the Premier League - a brace at Watford and a goal in the 2-0 defeat of Norwich City in United's most recent outing.

Recently voted as KUMB's Player of the Month for August following his impressive start to the 2019/20 campaign, Haller is yet to win a single cap for his country's senior squad but has plenty of experience featuring in the youth ranks.

The 6'3" striker has represented France at all levels from Under 16 to Under 21, where he scored 13 goals in 20 appearances between 2013 and 2016.
