Aston Villa boss Dean Smith said that he was "satisfied" yet "disappointed" as his Villa side failed to break down ten-man West Ham in the final quarter of Monday night's Premier League clash.

Smith's newly-promoted side barely tested Lukasz Fabianski throughout the game - even when gifted a one-man advantage by errant official Mike Dean following the official's dismissal of Arthur Masuaku.

And the manager felt that it was an opportunity wasted, even though Villa moved out of the Premier League's relegation zone as a result.

"I'm a little bit disappointed with the way we played when they went down to ten men," Smith told Villa's website.

"When it was 11 vs 11 I thought we were the better team and created the better chances, the big chances in the game. I just felt we never used the extra man well enough.

"Players tried to do a little bit too much on their own rather than using the football a little bit better and dragging the opposition about - and we ended up taking one or two touches too many. It resulted in us not creating enough chances."
