'Gloating' Carroll reflects on West Ham return

Andy Carroll admits that he enjoyed his first visit to the LOS since being released by West Ham United on a free transfer at the end of last season.

And the oft-injured striker admitted that he enjoyed meeting his former team mates following the surprise 3-2 win for his new club.

"I was just so delighted that we received the three points," he said. "I went in to see them after thew match had finished and was gloating a little bit!"

Carroll, who spent much of his six years at West Ham sidelined through injury featured as a late second half substitute in the game , entering the fray as an 89th minute substitute for record signing Joelinton.

He has made five appearances from the subs bench for the Magpies since returning to the club on a free transfer during the summer.

"It’s been hard," he added. "I’ve had my ups and downs with injuries, but hopefully I’m past them all now.

"It’s been great [being back in Newcastle]. I’ve missed being home. I’ve missed being with my family and friends, just driving around, memories.

"It’s great to be back at the club. I’d say 50-60% of the staff are still the same."
