Declan Rice returned to the international fold on Sunday evening to star in the England squad's latest Euro qualifying success.

Gareth Southgate's side ran out 4-0 winners in Kosovo to complete their qualifying campaign ahead of next summer's tournament, which is scheduled to take place in 12 cities across the continent.

And the young Hammer played an important role in the Three Lions' latest success.

With England leading by one goal to nil, Rice made a vital tackle to prevent the hosts from potentially equalising - before making a deep, probing run into Kosovan territory a few minutes later that began the move for England's vital second goal.

Despite barely putting a foot wrong during the game, Rice was still the subject of heavy criticism from TV pundit Roy Keane.

Speaking in the build-up to the match, which ensured England topped their qualifying group, Keane moaned: "There’s plenty of aspects [in which] he [Rice] needs to improve.

"I’ve looked at him pretty closely, I’ve worked with him when he was with the Irish squad. I don’t think he’s been consistent enough, he doesn’t stay with runners, he’s sloppy in possession, I can go on.

"He’s one of these players who people were enjoying but he’s one of these players that has almost played his way out of the team because he’s not been consistent at West Ham.

"He’s got another opportunity although I think it is a position in the England team where Gareth [Southgate] is obviously not sure who’s going to do that job in there."
